Silver Mirror Test

Tollens Sliver Mirror Reaction

A conical flask coated in silver after the tollens (or silver mirror) test for an Aldehyde

Tollens Reagent, ammoniacal silver nitrate, is used to test for an aldehyde resulting in a silver mirror forming on the inside of the glass container if there is an aldehyde present.
The Glassware must be absolutely immaculately cleaned with a concentrated strong Base (KOH is good) immediately before the test or a positive result will simply result in a dark precipitate in the solution
